Baceline Construction Ltd is more than aware of the benefits of replacing old boilers for new energy efficient condensing boilers. The UK government is also trying to do its bit to help people make that change with the introduction of the boiler scrappage scheme.

To help our customers understand the benefits of replacing their old boilers we have listed excerpts from some of the leading environment and energy saving expert websites.

Climate Change is something that we are all now too aware of and the effects of Global Warming are becoming more and more evident. In the last 100 years, the world’s average global temperatures have risen and are set to keep rising.

Due to the current era of unpredictable world energy prices, 2012 saw British Gas increase gas prices in January and August by 5% and 8% respectively, meaning that the average household bill is now at about £1,000 annually. Engery companies are reluctant to reduce prices even when raw prices fall.

So with gas prices still at record highs and Climate Change growing ever more concerning, you may find that you’re asking yourself the same question as hundreds of thousands around you: Should I consider changing my boiler?

Some boilers really are a thing of the past; if yours is more than 10 years old then you need to start thinking about replacing it. Modern boilers, despite being a lot quieter than some of the ancient ones we still see today, are much more efficient because they recover and recycle a lot of heat, and so need to use less fuel. Keeping up with the times will not just keep your bills down but will also benefit the environment enormously.

Around 60% of the carbon dioxide emissions in your home are down to your boiler. Replacing it could save you up to £110 and 875kg of CO2 a year. Adding in a full set of heating controls as well as a new boiler could reduce your bills by £190-£230 and will cut your CO2 emissions by 1.7 tonnes annually.

When it comes to boilers, you need to know what’s hot and what’s not. Almost always, the right choice will be a condensing boiler. In actual fact, with a few exceptions, all new gas and oil central heating fitted in the UK must be condensing boilers by law. These normally cost a bit more than other types of boilers up front, but save a lot of money in the long run because less is spent on fuel. Modern condensing boilers convert 90% of their fuel into heat, whereas the old non-condensing boilers convert just 60%, meaning that every £40 out of every £100 is wasted heat, which is neither economically nor environmentally beneficial.

If everyone in the UK with gas central heating decided to install a condensing boiler, we’d save 13 millions tonnes of CO2 and have enough energy to heat 3.7 millions homes for an entire year.

Replacing your boiler won’t cost you the Earth, and you’ll be doing your bit to save it too.
